Planning to have a baby? Here are some preconceptional tests for you!

1. Routine Blood Investigations Including Blood Group and Blood Sugars:
This is the first test you should get done - includes CBC, Rh factor, thalassaemia screening, liver profile, kidney profile, lipid profile, fasting and post-meal sugars, Hba1c - helps us know about your body function.

2. Urine Test -
It is done to check for urinary tract infections, diabetes, and kidney function.

3. Hormonal Profile -
This is done to evaluate levels of reproductive hormones such as FSH, LH, AMH, thyroid hormones which help us determine your fertility status.

4. Infection Screening -
This is done to detect sexually transmitted infections (STIs) such as HIV, syphilis, chlamydia, and gonorrhea, as well as other infections like hepatitis B and C, and rubella.

5. Pelvic Ultrasound -
This detects abnormalities like fibroids, ovarian cysts, or structural issues that could affect fertility or pregnancy.

6. Pap Smear -
This is done to screen for cervical cancer and other abnormalities in cervical cells.

‼️Wait! There are tests for men as well -
Blood test, urine test and infection screening should be done by men as well.

Except for this, men should also get a semen analysis done (this isn’t compulsory). It’ll assess sperm count, motility, morphology, and overall semen health.

These tests help ensure both partners are in good health before trying to conceive and give your practitioner to correct any deficiencies/abnormalities before you try!
